I’m Sirlenda Williams — educator, mother, creative, and founder of SO GROUNDED™. I’ve always believed in the power of knowing who you are and where you come from. That belief deepened when I made the life-changing decision to homeschool my children. It opened a path not just for their growth, but for mine — and sparked the birth of SO GROUNDED™.

Here, I offer more than programs. I offer a movement — one rooted in ancestral wisdom, self-awareness, cultural pride, and radical creativity. Whether through our African-centered homeschool collective, transformative youth workshops, or the bold expression of our Muumba frames and merchandise, SO GROUNDED™ is a space to remember, create, and rise.

My Story

After 15 years of passionate service as a certified teacher and reading coach in the Department of Education, I was terminated in 2021 for not complying with the city’s mandate. It was painful and disorienting. But in that moment of uncertainty, a new vision began to bloom. That same year, my husband and I made the bold decision to homeschool our two children. What started as a necessity quickly revealed itself as a gift. I noticed their success, their joy, and a blossoming of confidence, well-being, self-awareness, and a powerful growth mindset. But I didn’t just want to replicate school at home — I wanted to reimagine learning entirely.

So I did. I began creating workshops instead of worksheets — hands-on, experiential, culturally grounded learning in herbalism, financial literacy, sewing, culinary arts, history through art, travel, yoga, and meditation. I called in my mother and my two best friends to support this journey. Together, we became a tribe of educators and nurturers for my children. And from that seed, SO GROUNDED™ was born — a movement rooted in liberation, creativity, and knowledge of self.
